BW 5 rehabilitation of corrugated steel structure in Bad Friedrichshall

Rehabilitation of a pedestrian and cycle underpass using a pulled-in rehabilitation profile.

The Challenge

The project focused on making use of the existing structure and conserving resources, while avoiding disruption to traffic. A full replacement in concrete would have led to a road closure lasting several weeks. The rehabilitation method therefore needed to be fast, practical and carried out with minimal impact on traffic.

The Solution

ViaCon supplied a solution using the SWB 73 profile for the rehabilitation of the underpass. The rehabilitation profile was pulled into place using a chain excavator. Around 2,500 plastic caps were also used as part of the installation.

This approach enabled a fast, high-quality rehabilitation using corrugated steel. Compared with a new concrete replacement structure, the solution reduced cost and significantly limited traffic disruption. Installation was completed within 6 days, and the project was completed in March 2025.

The ViaCon Advantage

  • Existing structure reused – conserving resources
  • No multi-week road closure, as a concrete replacement would have required
  • Installation in 6 working days
  • Lower cost than a new concrete replacement structure
  • Low impact on traffic
