BW 40 Überführung der A1 / Unterführung eines Radweges

Rehabilitation of an existing concrete structure, previously used as a railway underpass and now serving as a culvert for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The challenge

As part of the A1 roadway renewal near Lasbek in Schleswig-Holstein, the upper half of the deck of the old concrete structure was first removed. The remaining parts of the existing underpass were kept in place, making it possible to avoid complete demolition.

The challenge was to rehabilitate the structure within the existing alignment and conditions, while maintaining a practical construction process and preparing the asset for continued use as a pedestrian and cycle underpass.

The solution

ViaCon supplied a ViaPlate® 200 solution for the rehabilitation works. The structure was installed over the full length of the existing asset and pulled in section by section by our installation team. The area where the original structure had already been removed was then backfilled with suitable material.

This approach made it possible to rehabilitate the crossing without full removal of the existing structure, with a solution adapted to the project geometry and site conditions.

The ViaCon advantage

  • No complete demolition required – parts of the existing structure retained
  • Rehabilitation within the existing alignment and site conditions
  • ViaPlate® structure installed over the full structure length of 83.12 m
  • Pulled in section by section by the ViaCon installation team
  • Continued use as an underpass for pedestrian and bicycle traffic
  • Long-lasting steel, duplex coating with galvanizing to DIN EN ISO 1461:2009, plus 240 µm epoxy-polyurethane coating on each of the inside and outside.
