StormWater tank protects tunnel entrance from flooding 

ViaCon delivered a 430 m³ tank solution in corrugated steel to manage rainwater and road washwater in a major infrastructure project in Sweden. 

The Challenge 

As part of a major road project in Sweden, the contractor needed to manage large volumes of rainwater and washwater generated by a widened road and a new tunnel entrance. To avoid flooding at the tunnel entrance and safely handle water from the road, a reliable retention solution was required.

The Solution 

To manage the rainwater and washwater and protect the tunnel entrance, the customer chose a ViaCon retention tank solution with a total volume of 430 m³. 

The tank was manufactured in HelCor® hot-dip galvanised corrugated steel, providing a durable solution designed to collect and store water for many years ahead. 

The system consisted of five DN1800 pipes, each 33.7 metres long, connected in parallel through a D200 interconnection pipe. This created the required storage volume while offering an efficient and practical solution for the site conditions. 

The ViaCon Advantage 

ViaCon delivered a cost-effective solution that met the required retention volume and helped solve a demanding logistics challenge. The full delivery was brought directly into the excavation area, with 12 trucks unloaded on site in a single day. 

ViaCon also carried out the installation, assembling the pipework on site to ensure an efficient process from delivery to completed solution.

In addition to efficient stormwater management, the solution offers a low CO₂ footprint and an expected service life of at least 50 years.
